2024 FIM MiniGP World Series
Team Canada Final Wrap-Up: A Fierce Fight Against the Odds!
What an exhilarating journey it has been for Team Canada at the 2024 FIM MiniGP World Finals! Battling through rain-soaked tracks and cold conditions, our riders showed relentless determination and grit, proving they have what it takes to compete on the world stage.
Learning the track in the Free Practice sessions quickly was crucial. The competition seemed to have an edge on us in the first 3 sessions in DRY conditions. It was Free Practice 4, where Team Canada shined! Facing challenging WET conditions, our riders rose to the occasion. Lincoln Scott finished in P15, while Jäger Stockill took P21 in a field of 41 riders from 22 countries, laying a strong foundation for the days ahead. However, their performance in the WET conditions did not factor in when the results were tallied in the Free Practice combined results, leaving Scott in P28 and Stockill in P41. But this didn't shake their spirits.
Next up: Qualifying Sessions in more cold, rainy conditions. The wet weather might have deterred others, but Team Canada has faced rain at every event in the Canadian Championship, conditioning our riders for moments like these. Despite the slippery challenges, Lincoln and Jäger gave it their all. When the final Qualifying Combined results were in, Scott was P31, and Stockill was in P35 – not where they wanted to be, but they weren't giving up yet!
Then came the Qualifying Races, where only the top few would advance. QR1 where the top 4 finishers would advance saw Scott charge to P7, just 3/100s of a second off the leader’s time, while Stockill unfortunately had to retire due to water in the fuel – a problem that plagued many in the field. But the battle continued!
In QR2, only the winner would move on. Both our riders prepared for the battle. Scott fought hard after being squeezed out in the opening corner charging up to P4 with faster lap times than the lead group. Unfortunately, a crash on lap 4 cut his promising run short.
Jäger Stockill also delivered a solid performance, steadily progressing through the field to secure a P5 finish.
The entire Team Canada contingent, from the riders to the support crew, deserves recognition for their hard work and dedication. Also, it was the support of many who helped get us here and we are grateful. The valuable experience gained at this global event has undoubtedly fueled our drive to achieve even greater success in future competitions.
Thank you for your support, together we will continue to chase the dream of a future MotoGP Champion!
